MBA Announces 2009 Officers; Board of Directors, Honors Its Own

4 Dec, 2008 – The Memphis Bar Association Annual Meeting was held earlier today at The Peabody Hotel. At the event, Arthur Quinn of Evans Petree Bogatin, PC, officially took reign as the 2009 MBA President. Ricky E. Wilkins of the Law Offices of Ricky E. Wilkins and John Cannon of Shuttleworth Williams, PLLC automatically succeed to the positions of Vice President and Treasurer, respectively. Gary K. Smith of Apperson Crump & Maxwell PLC was announced as the 2009 Secretary.

Section Representatives to the MBA in 2009 will be Jill Clyburn, Steve Goodwin and Sheree Hoffman.
 
Also at the meeting, George T. “Buck” Lewis III of Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, was honored with the W.J. Michael Cody Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award by Memphis Area Legal Services, Inc.
 
Kirk A. Caraway of Allen Summers Simpson Lillie & Gresham, PLLC, was honored with the Sam A. Myar, Jr. Memorial Award as a young attorney who has rendered outstanding personal service to the Memphis & Shelby County legal profession and community. The award is presented annually at the Annual Meeting.
 
Albert C. Harvey of Thomason Hendrix Harvey Johnson & Mitchell, PLLC, was honored with the Judge Jerome Turner Lawyer’s Lawyer Award. The award is presented annually to an MBA member who has practiced law for more than 15 years and who during that time, has exemplified the aims and aspirations embodied in the Guidelines for Professional Courtesy and Conduct. In 2000, the award was renamed in honor of Judge Jerome Turner, during whose presidency of the MBA the Guidelines were developed.
 
2008 President Amy J. Amundsen presented President’s Awards to The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and ServiceMaster in recognition of their support of and assistance with the 2008 High School Summer Law Intern Program.
